Swimming Carnival - 25 January

Years 4-12 Whitsunday Christian College Swimming Carnival

Dear Families,

The College’s first carnival is to be held this Wednesday, January 25, 2012. The Swimming Carnival allows those students who wish to compete in a range of events the opportunity to do so. The carnival will also have some other non-competitive events and a chance to get wet for all students.

Please note:

  • It is a strong tradition of the College that all students are present at the event as per the participation agreement with the College. Attendance is mandatory and we encourage all students to participate at an appropriate level.
  • Students who live at Proserpine may make their way directly to the pool for a 9am start, however these students will need parental consent (form attached below) to leave directly from the pool at the conclusion of the carnival.
  • Girls to wear one piece swimmers or bikini with a sun/rash shirt.
  • The district/regional sports committee are not running qualifying events this year. Serious club swimming competitors have the opportunity to represent the district based on their official club times. Club swimmers may see Mr Eakin for more information if required. While this is the case, the strong Lions V Eagles tradition plus our desire to acknowledge individual talent will ensure this year’s carnival is another memorable College Sports event.
  • Please remind students that if they are wearing their Lions or Eagles shirt, they may wear casual board shorts and footwear for the entire day of the carnival. Alternatively, students may come to school in official sports uniform and change at venue.
  • Students are encouraged to display House pride by coming dressed in red and purple. However, they are to take care not to bring crate paper into the pool and not to wear coloured zinc while travelling on the buses.
  • Sun smart: There is cover but hats (free dress hat allowed), sunscreen, sunglasses, sun safety swimming shirts (rash shirts) and plenty of water should be packed.
  • Lunch should be packed, however the canteen will open throughout the day for snacks and drinks.
  • Students may take appropriate photos during the day as it is a College community event.
  • As per all of our carnivals, family support is welcomed.
  • Competitive swimmers from years 4 and 5 will also participate in the event this year.

Our programs have academic rigour and depth. We aim to engage the whole person, that is, we believe learning is most powerful when it is permeated with rich positive values, constructed in a socially rewarding atmosphere, and challenges the head, hands and heart. We aim to develop each young person to be the best he or she can be in all she or he undertakes.
